There are many volunteer opportunities in Brazil. Here are just some of them. Teaching English in Brazil can be particularly rewarding as Brazilians are an absolute delight to teach, full of joy, smiles, optimism and gratitude - And as an aside, Teaching English is also a great way to learn or improve your Portuguese Conservation in the Amazon is always worth considering - of course, if conservation is your thing it is the ultimate experience. For example, in Acre, due to illegal logging and other devastating activities, 45% of the rainforest is protected by the Brazilian government, and the remaining 55% is very, very, closely monitored.
Volunteering Overseas with Orphans is always extremely popular, you can usually choose your orphanage type too; boys orphanage, girls orphanage or mixed - some orphanages are exclusive to newborn and babies under 2 years old, so this is another option for you to consider - and please consider bringing some ¨bits¨with you, such as; toothbrushes, small toys or school stationary - these kind of things are always welcomed and gratefully received! Working Overseas with Street Kids is a very rewarding experience - and unfortunately, Brazil is one of the countries if not the primary region which has experienced the world's press and public spotlight highlighting the plight of street children. In all fairness to the Brazilian government, they have , over the past 10 years or so piloted and established funded programs to help street kids, sadly, it is not enough, and without the help and intervention of NGOs and volunteers the plight would be much greater than it is! A little tip about volunteering in Brazil - If you do plan on venturing overseas and are not fixed to a schedule, you may like to kill two birds with one stone, as it were, and volunteer in Brazil whilst the Carnival is on. The dates of Carnival in Brazil changes year-on-year (6 weeks before Easter), so check the calendar before planning your trip and see if you can volunteer before or after carnival (it's usually best to volunteer before, somehow, you will feel you have earned the right to party hard after a stint of volunteering).
